The Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment (MBRHE) has launched the Maskani initiative, introducing a comprehensive Housing Preparation Guide for People of Determination that sets new benchmarks for inclusive and smart housing design in Dubai.
Unveiled at the AccessAbilities Expo 2025, the initiative outlines design standards and practical solutions that enable individuals with disabilities to live independently in homes tailored to their physical, psychological, and functional needs. It also promotes the use of assistive and smart technologies to enhance comfort, accessibility, and sustainability.
The guide provides clear design specifications for engineers and planners to create safe and adaptable living spaces across a range of needs, including physical, visual, auditory, and intellectual disabilities, as well as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and mental health conditions.
The establishment described the guide as a national reference for human-centred housing design and sustainable development, reflecting Dubai’s leadership in creating inclusive communities and advancing its smart city vision.
Alongside the guide, MBRHE introduced its Smart Home Conversion Service for People of Determination. The service integrates advanced control systems and assistive technologies into existing homes, allowing residents to manage lighting, temperature, and home functions independently through digital interfaces.
During the exhibition, MBRHE also showcased its portfolio of digital housing services and interactive solutions that streamline access for all residents, including People of Determination.-WAM
