Mall of the Emirates is marking its 20th anniversary with a bold AED 5 billion redevelopment that will add 20,000 sqm of retail, 100 new stores, and new cultural, wellness, and dining concepts.
The expansion is being positioned as the “Mall of New Possibilities”. Since opening in 2005, the mall has set benchmarks for Dubai retail with world-firsts such as Ski Dubai, flagship fashion brands, and a mix of entertainment and dining that redefined the regional shopping experience. Two decades on, Majid Al Futtaim is repositioning the destination for the next era, with plans that include a 600-seat theatre anchored by New Covent Garden, a wellness precinct, and an indoor–outdoor district that brings immersive entertainment to the fore.
To celebrate its anniversary, the mall has lined up a month of experiences, including an aerial performance by international troupe Bandaloop on September 20, a one-day 20x SHARE Rewards promotion, and an exclusive showcase of Fall/Winter 2025 collections under the Fashion Dome. The celebrations also include an AllSaints personalisation lab where customers can customise pieces with the mall’s anniversary logo.
The transformation reflects a wider trend in Dubai’s retail and real estate sectors, where malls are repositioning themselves as cultural and lifestyle destinations. With more than AED 5 billion invested, Mall of the Emirates is making a statement about the resilience of physical retail and its ability to adapt in the age of digital commerce.
